Cork city centre is set for another new hotel with planning approved for a €50m, five- to 10-storey, 180-bedroom hotel at the junction of Lower Oliver Plunkett St and Connell St, opposite the site once earmarked for the now-shelved Prism office block. Construction work is due to begin in Q3 2026 on the 0.07ha site to the rear of the former Eircom building, No 5 Lapps Quay. Separately, a demolition contractor has been appointed to clear the former Leisureplex/Coliseum cinema site at MacCurtain St and Brian Boru St ahead of construction of a 173-bed hotel later this year. Plans are also advancing for an €18.5m, 58-bedroom boutique hotel at 71 South Mall, while an extension of planning permission has been sought for a proposed 34-storey hotel on Custom House Quay.
