A more resilient and future-proofed water supply is on the horizon for homes and businesses in West Roscommon, with Uisce Éireann submitting a planning application for a €13 million upgrade to the Castlerea Water Treatment Plant. Once delivered, the upgraded plant will increase capacity to cater for 4,800 additional homes, ensuring the network can meet current and future demand while improving overall resilience of the water supply.
The proposed project will involve the installation and commissioning of a new water treatment stream at the plant. This will include a modern chemical dosing system, new filtration and flocculation processes, and a full electrical upgrade. The plans also provide for the construction of new buildings and tanks, along with enhancements to the site’s power supply.
Subject to planning approval, construction is expected to commence in 2027, with substantial completion anticipated by 2029 and commissioning in 2030. Read the full story here.
